Trigonometric Equations

Summary

trigonometric equations are equations containing terms such as sin x, cos x and tan x.

they can be solved using the trigonometric graphs and, if necessary, a calculator. another method, using general solutions, is no longer in the bursary prescription.

because trigonometric functions are periodic and continue forever, these trigonometric equations often have an infinite number of solutions unless the domain (x-values) is fixed. the domain will be given.

Key Skills

find solutions of trigonometric equations within a specified range:

equations of the forms :

  • asinb(x + c) = d,
  • acosb(x + c) = d
  • atan bx = c
  • simple cases reducible to these forms.
