Differentiation of Trigonometric Functions

Summary

the six basic trigonometric functions can be differentiated.

this table is given with the exam paper but should be memorised.

f(x)
f '(x)
sin x
cos x
cos x
- sin x
tan x
sec2 x
sec x
sec x tan x
cosec x
-cosec x cot x
cot x
-cosec2x

the chain rule is used to differentiate more complex trigonometric functions.

the derivatives of the inverse trigonometric functions, sin-1x, cos-1x and tan-1x and variations. (not required for nz ncea level 3)
