1. What is a NEGATIVE number?
A negative number is an integer that is less than zero. e.g. -3 is a negative number.
2. Do I have to put a plus sign in front of a positive number?
No, the plus sign is often left off when talking about positive numbers. e.g 4 means+4
3. Does the minus sign in front of negative numbers have to be raised.
It is clearer, but not essential, that the sign is raised, or the integer and the sign are placed together in brackets.
e.g. -3 or (-3). -3 is still often used.
4. What is an INTEGER?
An integer is a positive or negative whole number or zero.
5. What sign does the answer have if I divide a negative number by another negative number?
Strangely enough the answer is POSITIVE! e.g. -3 ÷ -3 = +1
6. What is the difference between whole numbers and natural numbers?
Whole numbers include zero (0), whereas the natural numbers do not. N = {1, 2, 3, 4, ...} W = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4,...}
