This allows for easy comparison of features such as the median, quartiles, and maximum and minimum values.

2. Are all box and whisker plots drawn in the same way?

Some box plots as they are sometimes called, show the 10th and 90th percentiles at the end of each "whisker", instead of the maximum and minimum values.

Any other extreme values or outliers are shown on the box plots as dots.
