Statistical Investigations Exercise

A survey was carried out, similar to the one described in Topic 50 notes, to investigate the amount of time that a group of students watched TV. 15 students at each form level of a secondary school were asked the question:

"Approximately how many hours of TV, (to nearest half hour) do you watch, on average, each weekday"

(a) Calculate the average (mean) time spent watching TV by students at each level on weekdays. Show this information on a bar graph.

(b) Arrange each set of data in order and calculate the medians and quartiles. Draw a box and whisker diagram to illustrate these statistics.

(c) Use these graphs and diagrams to make comments on this data.
