What is Algebra?

algebra is the part of mathematics that is useful to help solve problems. in algebra, letters or symbols are used to represent numbers. these letters are called variables or pronumerals. a term is made up of coefficients, varaibles and exponents. an expression is made up of terms.

some of the operations performed in algebra include:

  • simplifying
  • expanding
  • factorising
  • substituting
  • solving equations
  • working with formulae
  • finding patterns and sequences
  • drawing graphs
